Board gaming can be a hobby about simple joys. Nice meeples, painted miniatures, well-designed inserts, and—maybe my favorite—dual layer player boards.
Metal coins are another way to really take a game up a notch. I have upgraded coins for Rising Sun, and in a game like that where you have to manipulate the coins a lot during the game, they add a surprising amount of luxury to the game—that matches the beautiful production and (hopefully painted) miniatures.
However, Rising Sun’s coins don’t really fit thematically with other games. That’s why if I were to recommend one set that could be used in multiple different games, I would suggest the Scythe Metal Coins.
They have a good heft, make a great sound when stacked, and come in denominations of 1, 3, 5 10, and 20. You can check them out here:
